The Newark American Little League senior all-stars won the District 2 Championship in a dramatic double-header against Naamans.

The Newark American Little League senior all-stars capped their pandemic-delayed season by winning the District 2 Championship in a dramatic double-header against Naamans on Tuesday night.

Game 1 began Monday night but was postponed after the fourth inning due to rain, with Naamans leading 4-1. The game resumed Tuesday night with Naamans adding an additional run in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom half of the inning, Zack Czarnecki connected for a grand slam to tie the game, and Eddie Klima scored the go-ahead run by stealing home on a wild pitch. Steven Mann was sharp on the mound for Newark American, which ultimately won 6-5 to force a second game that night.

Game 2 began as a pitching dual, with neither team scoring until the fourth inning. Klima struck out eight batters and allowed only one hit, which gave Naamans a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Czarnecki and Hunter Harach singled, and Chase Huebner loaded the bases on a walk.

Newark American scored three runs on a bases-loaded walk, a Jordon Nietfeld hit-by-pitch and a Michael Brelek single to take a 3-1 lead. Huebner came in to pitch the final three innings and allowed only one run for a 3-2 win.

Due to the pandemic, Little League is not holding any tournaments beyond the district level this year.

The Newark American roster included Conner Brown, Michael Brelek, Zack Czarnecki, Dakota Curlett, Hunter Harach, Quinton Hauser, Chase Huebner, Eddie Klima, Aidan Kutch, Cam Leighton, Aidan Lawhorn, Steven Mann and Jordan Nietfeld. The manager was Paul Kutch, and coaches included Ed Lafranca, Pete Mann and Brian Huebner.
