Police are warning Newarkers to be alert after a string of car thefts in the city.
The three cars that were stolen overnight Feb. 25 had all been left unlocked with the keys inside, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
“The Newark Police continue to stress that locking vehicle doors is an easy way to avoid becoming a victim of a theft,” Rubin said. “In addition, never leave valuables nor keys to the vehicle inside your vehicle.”
The thefts all happened near each other, but detectives are still trying to determine whether they are connected.
Rubin said the cars had been parked on Madison Drive in College Park, Munro Road in Newark Preserve and Smoke Rise Lane in the Chimney Ridge student housing complex, off South Main Street.
One of the stolen cars was located in Wilmington, while two are still missing – a 2016 white Acura RDX with license plate DE PC142099 and a 2013 black Hyundai Sonata with license plate PA LLN6548.
