Police are searching for a man who robbed a woman in downtown Newark late Thursday.
The incident happened just before midnight after the victim withdrew money from an ATM in the 100 block of East Main Street, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
As the victim walked back to her car, the robber approached and grabbed money from the victim's hands. The victim and a witness fought with the robber in an attempt to get the money back, but the robber prevailed and ran away with the cash.
The robber got into a four-door passenger car and drove off. The witness gave chase in a vehicle, but the robber escaped.
The robber was described as a bald white man, approximately 30 years old and between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a white undershirt, dark pants and a red face mask.
Police did not release any surveillance footage.
