A Newark resident returned home to find a woman ransacking the house Sunday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. on West Park Place, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
“An investigation at the scene revealed that the suspect entered the residence while the residents were not home,” Rubin said. “She proceeded to go through various rooms in the residence and caused damage and removed property in the process.”
Upon arriving home and discovering the burglar, the homeowner called 911, and responding officers arrested the woman.
The alleged burglar, 57-year-old Newark resident April Summers, is no stranger to the house – she was charged with burglarizing the same place last year and was ordered by a court not to return, according to Rubin.
Summers, who also goes by the alias April Edwards, was charged with second-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief and breach of release. She was jailed after failing to post $7,500 secured bail.
