West Chestnut Hill Road will close for six weeks beginning next week.
The closure will run from May 27 to July 8, weather permitting.
DelDOT's contractor, Manolis Painting Inc., will be sand blasting and painting the bridge. The purpose of the project is to replace the structural steel coating system in order to extend the service life of the structure, officials said.
The project is a continuation of work that closed the road for two weeks last summer.
The road will be closed to through-traffic between South College Avenue and Otts Chapel Road. Motorists will be detoured to Welsh Tract Road.
However, local traffic will still have access to the neighborhoods along West Chestnut Hill Road.
