A University of Delaware student is in custody after allegedly shooting a man with a BB gun and threatening two others on Academy Street, police said.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Oct. 3, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
Two people walking on Academy Street near Delaware Avenue told police they were followed by a vehicle. The driver pulled up next to them, pointed a gun at them and threatened to shoot them.
The victims fled unhurt.
A short time later, a man walking through the parking lot of UD’s Drake Hall on Academy Street was shot with a BB gun. The suspect and vehicle involved matched the descriptions from the first incident.
The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
Detectives used surveillance footage and information from witnesses to identify the alleged shooter as Quinn Annable, a 20-year-old UD student, Rubin said.
Annable was arrested at his off-campus residence Oct. 6.
“An air pistol that shoots metal pellets was recovered at that time,” Rubin said.
Annable was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and two counts of aggravated menacing. He was jailed after failing to post $20,000 cash bail.
He will be referred to UD’s student conduct office for potential further sanctions.
