Newark Police are investigating two attempted robberies – and a possible third – that happened within in a short period of time Saturday evening.
The incidents happened around 7 p.m., according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department. The suspects were described only as two young black men in a dark-colored pickup truck.
In the first incident, two women were sitting in a parking lot in the 200 block of East Delaware Avenue when two men approached and demanded their personal property. The would-be robbers ultimately ran away empty-handed and got in the truck.
A short time later, two men confronted another man who was walking on Delaware Avenue near Haines Street. They demanded his personal property and implied they had a gun, though no weapon was displayed. The victim refused, and the men fled to the truck.
In the third incident, a woman was chased by one man who had been driving a dark-colored pickup truck in the area of South Chapel Street and Lovett Avenue, but there was no attempt to rob her, Rubin said.
Detectives are investigating all three incidents. Anyone with information should contact Newark Police at 302-366-7111.
