A truck driver from New York died Sunday morning when his tractor-trailer drifted off Interstate 95 and hit several trees near Newark, police said.
Gary J. Buffalino, 65, was driving his truck in the left lane of southbound I-95 between Del. 273 and the Delaware Welcome Center just before 9 a.m. The truck drifted across the other three lanes, sideswiped a Honda Pilot and ran off the right side of the road, according to Sgt. Richard Bratz, a spokesman for Delaware State Police.
The truck went down a slight embankment and continued into a wooded area, where it hit several trees. Buffalino, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and died at the scene, Bratz said.
The driver of the Honda was treated and released at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. D. Alexander of the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit by calling 302-365-8437.
