What’s your best memory of celebrating the holiday season in Newark?

Maybe you recall Santa Claus arriving by helicopter in Brookside or greeting kids at the Santa House in Newark Shopping Center. Perhaps the start of the Christmas season stirs up memories of chopping down a tree at the Krantz Farm or shopping at Newark Department Store and the National 5 and 10.

Or, maybe your best holiday memory is a personal one, like a meaningful gift or just cozying up by the fire and celebrating the holiday with treasured family members and friends.

For our Christmas edition this year, we want to hear your stories about past Christmases or other winter holidays here in Newark.

If you would like to participate, submit a brief essay recounting your memories, and we’ll publish as many we can on Dec. 20. Keep your submission between 100 and 350 words, and include your name (which will be published) and your contact information (which will not be published.) Feel free to include photos.

Submissions should be emailed to by Dec. 17.

To sweeten the deal, we’ll randomly choose one participant to receive a $50 Visa gift card to use for last minute holiday shopping.
