Historian Jim Jones, pictured here giving a walking tour in 2018, will give a lecture at the George Wilson Center on Saturday.

Newark residents may know that the Deer Park, Academy Building and Old College are historic, but do you know about Pritchard’s Cemetery, the Wagon Wheel Country Club or why Center Street doesn’t reach Cleveland Avenue?

Local historian Jim Jones is hosting a “Secrets of Newark History” lecture, during which he will describe some of the unusual things he’s uncovered in the course of creating historic walking tours for the Newark Historical Society.

This one-hour lecture will be offered at the George Wilson Center at 9 a.m. Saturday. The event is free, but pre-registration is required and can be done at Newarkde.gov/play.

Masks are required in the George Wilson Center, and attendees will be seated to accommodate social distancing.
