A Newark man was arrested Monday after 10,026 bags of heroin were found in a mechanically operated, hidden compartment in a Ford Taurus he was driving in the area of Delaware 141 and Interstate 95 near Newport.
The drug seizure and arrest of Daniel Diaz, 33, culminated a month-long investigation by the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force, said spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack.
According to police, Diaz supplied heroin to the Newark and New Castle areas, while resupplying in Philadelphia.
The value of the heroin seized is over $100,000. The heroin, packaged for street sale, weighed 250 grams.
Diaz, already on Level 3 probation, was also found to be in possession of more than $2,500 cash, Shavack said. Diaz was charged with drug dealing and possession of heroin.
He was committed to the Howard R Young Correctional Center in default of $120,000 cash bond.
