Police are asking for the public’s help identifying two women who robbed a Newark grocery store and threatened an employee.

The incident happened just before 1 p.m. Saturday at the Acme in The Grove at Newark, formerly known as College Square, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

The two women loaded a cart with groceries and started pushing it out of the store. When an employee told them to stop, one of the women pointed a chemical spray at the employee and threatened to use it.

The employee was not hurt.

The women were last seen heading north on foot. Both were described as black women, between 25 and 35 years old, and 5 feet 5 inches tall. One had long braids and was wearing a gray-and-black leopard or zebra-print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. The other was wearing dark sweatpants and a dark sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Officer Paige Klein at 302-366-7100, ext. 3480, or pklein@newark.de.us.
