Police are searching for a Newark man accused of strangling his girlfriend and threatening her at gunpoint, authorities said.
Brandon Carter, 25, may be armed with a handgun, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department. Anyone with information about Carter’s whereabouts should call 911 or 302-366-7111. Tips can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. Friday in the home Carter and his girlfriend share in the 100 block of Madison Drive in the College Park neighborhood, Rubin said.
According to Rubin, Carter and his girlfriend had been arguing via text message, and he attacked her when she returned home.
“He immediately placed his hand around her throat,” Rubin said. “He pushed her to the ground and began to strangle her.”
The woman was able to escape from the home and called police. She was not injured.
She later told investigators that Carter had threatened her with a gun earlier in the week, Rubin said.
Police went to the house, but Carter was gone.
Police have obtained warrants charging Carter with strangulation, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, aggravated menacing and terroristic threatening.
Carter is described as a black man, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160 pounds.
