A Newark man is in custody after allegedly robbing and threatening to shoot a man who gave him a ride in Bear, police said.
The incident began just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Royal Farms at 1551 Pulaski Highway, according to Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a spokesman for Delaware State Police.
Aaron Conyer, 33, approached the 24-year-old victim and asked for a ride. The victim agreed, but during the drive, Conyer began asking for money, Hatchell said.
The victim declined, and Conyer threatened to shoot him and reached toward his waistband, implying he had a weapon, Hatchell said. The victim handed over cash, and Conyer got out of the car and fled on foot.
The victim, who was not injured, called police, and officers quickly located Conyer outside a nearby Wawa.
Conyer was charged with first-degree robbery and was jailed after failing to post $20,000 secured bond.
