A man wanted for three burglaries in Newark was arrested after attempting to carjack several vehicles on Interstate 95 while fleeing from police in Elkton, Md., according to court records.
Investigators identified the suspect as Brian Andrew Davis, 45, of the 700 block of Pulaski Highway in Elkton.
Davis was wanted for three burglaries that happened in late February and early March, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
Officers spotted his car on Cleveland Avenue on March 8 and tried to pull him over, but he wouldn’t stop and the pursuit was terminated due to safety reasons, Rubin said. Around 11 a.m. the following day, police learned that Davis was near a truck stop in Elkton.
With assistance from Maryland State Police, officers spotted Davis’ car – a light blue 2003 Dodge Caravan that lacked a license plate – at a McDonald’s at 226 Belle Hill Road, off Elkton Road approximately 2 miles from the Delaware border.
Davis got out of the passenger’s side of the van and started running toward a nearby wood line, authorities said. Police chased Davis, who hopped over a fence and then continued running toward the I-95 ramp.
“Davis then began grabbing multiple door handles of vehicles passing by on northbound I-95. Davis then grabbed the handle of a black Jeep Cherokee,” according to court records, which further indicates that the Jeep was able to speed away and Davis continued running north along I-95.
Police arrested Davis moments later, after he crossed the highway’s median strip, court records show.
Davis remained in the Cecil County Detention Center on no bond Tuesday, one day after his bail review hearing, according to court records. He is facing five charges in Maryland, including attempted carjacking, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace, court records show. He also faces charges in Delaware related to the burglaries.
