Gunshots rang out in downtown Newark during a confrontation between two groups of people early Saturday, police said.
Detectives are still investigating but are not aware of anyone who was injured, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
The incident happened just after 1 a.m. near the intersection of West Main Street and New London Road.
Rubin said the initial investigation showed the confrontation happened on West Main Street. A car belonging to one of the people involved was damaged.
“Gunshots were reported to have been fired during the confrontation; however, no victims have been located,” Rubin said.
Police detained an unspecified number of people who were inside a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, but no arrests have been made.
Detectives are continuing to interview the people detained as well as other witnesses and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
