Police are warning residents to be alert after a rash of moped thefts in Newark.

“Residents who own mopeds should undertake efforts to secure them as best as possible,” Newark Police Department spokesman Lt. Andrew Rubin said. “Any suspicious activity should be reported to Newark Police at 302-366-7111.”

In the past week, NPD has received three reports of moped thefts, Rubin said.

Between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7, somebody stole a camouflage 2015 Daekon moped, New Jersey plate 4GVZ29, from in front of a residence in the unit block of Wrightstowne Lane, off South Chapel Street.

At around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 7, somebody stole a black 2003 Honda moped, Delaware plate MP3777, from in front of a residence in the 200 block of Haines Street.

At around 1 a.m. Aug. 10, somebody stole a gray 2008 Honda moped, Delaware plate MP1405, from behind the Main Street Galleria.

No suspect information or photos were released.
