A Newark man was struck and killed while cycling on South College Avenue near Glasgow on Tuesday morning, police said.
The crash happened at 9:41 a.m. near the intersection of Corporate Boulevard, according to Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a spokesman for Delaware State Police
Robert Frederick, 59, was riding his bike in the right turn lane of southbound South College Avenue when the driver of a Ford E350 van merged into the turn lane “directly in the path of the bicyclist,” Hatchell said.
The van driver attempted to avoid the collision, but the front of the van hit the back of the bicycle, causing Frederick to be thrown from the bike, Hatchell added.
Frederick was flown by helicopter to Christiana Hospital, where he died.
The van driver, identified only as a 44-year-old man from Newark, was not hurt.
No charges were announced, but police are continuing to investigate the crash.
