Construction at College Square Shopping Center has begun, as crews do site preparation work and install an underground stormwater retention system. The redevelopment project includes two large apartment buildings, which will be built in the southeast quadrant of the site. Some retail space will remain in the location of the former Kmart, and two standalone retail buildings are planned for the side near Library Avenue, including one where Pep Boys is now. Delaware Avenue will be extended through the shopping center and will have new retail buildings on either side of it. The northern half of College Square – where Acme and the former Sears Hardware are – was recently renovated, and those buildings will remain, as will the WSFS Bank.
