More than 50 people turned out Saturday morning for a historical walking tour, led by local historian Jim Jones and sponsored by the Newark Historical Society and Newark Parks and Recreation Department. The tour took participants down New London Avenue, Hillside Road and West Main Street. It focused on two of Newark’s most celebrated historic districts: the historically African-American neighborhood surrounding New London Avenue and Cleveland Avenue, and the “Quality Hill” neighborhood on West Main Street, where many wealthier Newark residents built houses in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Jones' next free walking tour is set for 10 a.m. Oct. 10, starting at the Newark History Museum, 429 S. College Ave.
