Part of Otts Chapel Road will close for the next two weekends as part of the ongoing Elkton Road construction project.
The northbound lanes between Sandy Drive and Elkton Road will be closed from 8 p.m. April 8 to 5 a.m. April 12, and again from 8 p.m. April 15 to 5 a.m. April 19.
Crews will use that time to reconstruct the intersection.
Southbound lanes will remain open.
The Elkton Road project began last fall, when the northbound side was closed and all traffic was shifted to the southbound side, with one lane in each direction. That contraflow pattern will continue through June, when traffic is shifted to the other side.
Much like the recent Main Street project, the Elkton Road work will provide a more permanent solution to the potholes and rough road surface that has plagued the highway for several years. The project will also add a third northbound travel lane between Otts Chapel Road and Christina Parkway as well as a 10-foot-wide paved bicycle and pedestrian path that will run parallel to the northbound lanes but be separated by a grassy median
The entire $25 million project is expected to be complete by October 2022.
