UD crane

Workers use a crane to build an addition to the University of Delaware’s Life Sciences Research Facility in September. Additional crane work will disrupt traffic next week.

A section of Academy Street will close for five days next week as part of an ongoing University of Delaware construction project.

The closure, planned for between Delaware Avenue and Lovett Avenue, will begin Monday, Jan. 6, and end Friday, Jan. 10.

In addition, part of Delaware Avenue will be reduced to a single lane during the same time period. Pedestrians will be detoured away from the work zone.

Meanwhile, motorists driving on Park Place and Academy Street should be alert for oversize vehicles hauling materials to the construction site.

The closure is necessary to allow a large crane to be used as part of a project to expand UD’s life sciences building, university officials said. This is the second time crane work for the project has resulted in road closures.
