The Newark Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor another outdoor beer garden this week.

The Parks on Draft event will be held at Handloff Park on Barksdale Road. It will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, and Saturday, Aug. 8. On Sunday, Aug. 9, it will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is no Thursday event this time.

Based on a similar event series in Philadelphia, the Parks on Draft initiative is intended to capitalize on the trend of outdoor beer gardens, bring new people to town, support businesses during the traditionally slow summer season, raise money for charity and highlight the city’s various parks. This is the second one held this year.

This weekend’s event is co-hosted by Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen, which will sell cold caprese sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, smoked turkey tacos, hot dogs and Uncrustable PB&J sandwiches for kids. Beers include drafts from Bud Light, Corona Premier, Bells Oberon, Big Oyster Hammerhead and Yards Philly Pale Ale. White Claw Hard Seltzer will also be available, as will soda and bottled water.

Marielle Kraft will perform Friday, Joe Cahill will perform Saturday, and Mattie Hubner will perform Sunday.

The family-friendly event features free parking. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to sit on.
