Nine people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near Newark on Monday night.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of the interstate just past South Chapel Street, according to Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company officials.
Due to the number of injuries, Aetna declared a mass casualty incident, bringing ambulances from four area fire companies to the scene.
One person was trapped in a vehicle, and two had injuries serious enough to warrant treatment by New Castle County paramedics. In total, nine people were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.
