Police are investigating after a Newark woman awoke to find a stranger trespassing in her bedroom early Sunday morning.
The incident happened just after 2 a.m. in the unit block of Chambers Street, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
The woman asked the trespasser a question, causing him to run out of a back door and flee toward South Chapel Street, Rubin said. Neither the victim nor her roommates recognized the man.
Nothing was stolen, and no damage was caused to the residence. Rubin said there was no sign of forced entry, but it’s not clear how the man got into the home.
The suspect is described as a white man, 18 to 22 years old, 6 feet tall and wearing a black hat, black jacket and dark pants.
Rubin said detectives are aware of social media postings from people indicating they were victims of similar incidents around the same time, but only the Chambers Street incident has been reported to police.
Anyone with information about the suspect or who was a victim of a similar incident should contact Det. Daniel Bystricky at 302-366-7100, ext. 3136, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
