The Newark Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a drive-in movie night later this month, intending to provide local families with a chance for some old-time, socially distant fun.
The event is set for Saturday, July 18, in the north parking lot at the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus. Parking opens at 7:30 p.m., with the movie starting at 8:30 p.m.
“Back to the Future” will be shown on a 40-foot outdoor movie screen.
Admission is $20 per car, which can include up to six members of the same household. Each car will get a spot to park and an additional parking space to set up blankets and chairs.
In order to provide appropriate social distancing, the event is limited to 50 cars. Tickets are available first come, first serve at www.newarkde.gov/play.
The event, which is sponsored by The Newark Partnership, is partially meant to replace the city’s annual Independence Day festival, which was canceled due to the pandemic.
The event will cost the city approximately $3,000, an amount partially offset by admission fees and sponsorships, officials said.
