A 55-year-old Newark man is facing weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop east of the city, police said.
A state trooper pulled over a car for a traffic violation on Churchmans Road around 8:20 p.m. Monday, according to Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a spokesman for Delaware State Police.
The trooper noticed that the backseat passenger, William Davis, was concealing something. The trooper removed Davis from the car and searched him, finding a concealed handgun, Hatchell said.
After searching the car, troopers found a small amount of methamphetamine.
Davis was charged with possession of a semiautomatic weapon and drugs, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $7,700 unsecured bond.
The other two occupants of the car were not charged.
