A Newark man died Saturday when his motorcycle ran off a road in Middletown and crashed into a retention pond.
The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. on northbound U.S. 301 approaching the Boyds Corner Road overpass, according to Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, a spokesman for Delaware State Police.
Keith Needam, 57, lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveled off the right side of the road as the road curved to the left.
“The motorcycle first struck a reflector post and continued traveling in a northerly direction before striking an embankment and became airborne,” Fournier said. “The motorcycle continued in a northerly direction and stopped after becoming immersed in a retention pond.”
Needam was thrown off the motorcycle. A helicopter flew him to Christiana Hospital, where he died.
