Mayor Jerry Clifton honors local Girl Scouts who donated their cookie proceeds to the Newark Police Department K-9 fund.

A local Girl Scout troop that donated its cookie proceeds to the Newark Police Department’s K-9 fund was honored by city council on Monday.

“We hear so much about what’s wrong with America today. I love events like this because look around you: this is what’s right about America today,” Mayor Jerry Clifton said as he stood with the Girl Scouts in council chambers. “We can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for our police department.”

The girls of Troop 672 worked together to select the K-9 fund to receive $300 they earned from their annual cookie fundraiser. The fund supports the police dogs by paying for food and other supplies.

“I want to thank all the Girl Scouts here for your concern, for your efforts and for all your hard work,” Clifton said.
