Newark’s first movie theater was built on the site of a butcher shop and slaughterhouse that was a community nuisance. Another Newark theater held a public contest to find a name. Yet another Newark theater featured an art gallery along with its films.
The Newark Historical Society is inviting Newarkers to hear these stories and more during a virtual presentation on historical movie theaters. The presenter will be Michael Nazarewycz, the author of “Historic Movie Theaters of Delaware.”
The Zoom event is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 16. Attendance is free, but those interested must pre-register at tinyurl.com/newarktheaters.
