Two Newark organizations are calling on the public to help out with getting school supplies to teachers in need.
The Newark Partnership has launched its fourth-annual school supply drive to help equip local teachers with necessary supplies to stock their classrooms.
Leann Moore, executive director of TNP, said the organization started the drive in 2019 when members noticed that while students were getting the necessary supplies, teachers and other school staffers were not getting the supplies necessary to teach.
“There’s all kinds of data out there that says every teacher, regardless of if they’re new or not, spends hundreds and hundreds of their own money to stock their classrooms. That’s even more for new teachers because they’re starting from scratch,” Moore said. “So, we like to provide that for them to get them started.”
Moore said TNP will also provide hygiene kits for school nurses and counselors.
This year’s school drive is completely online. For anyone interested in purchasing supplies for the local school teachers they can go to roonga.com/npnewark2022.
The drive will last until Aug. 15.
The Newark chapter of the Police Athletic League is also holding a school supply drive. All donations can be dropped off at the Newark Free Library.
