This week's Main Street Alfresco event has been canceled due to weather.
However, Newarkers will still have more opportunities to dine outside on Main Street.
The city announced Wednesday that two more dates were added to the event series, which began in June with a celebration of Main Street's reopening and continued July 29 and Aug. 5.
The added events are set for Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. In the case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the following day.
Main Street will be shut down for the evening between Chapel Street and South College Avenue, and restaurants will expand their outdoor seating into the street in order to provide more people the opportunity to eat outside, which experts say is safer than eating indoors during the pandemic.
Reservations are suggested. Parking is available in municipal lots #1 (behind Grotto Pizza), #4 (behind Walgreens), #6 (behind the University of Delaware bookstore) and #7 (behind Starbucks and the former Simon Eye building), which are accessible via Delaware Avenue, Center Street and Haines Street. Regular parking fees will be enforced.
