A man who caused a crash that killed two people near Newark is facing prison time after pleading guilty this week, prosecutors said.
Jeffrey Guseman, 41, of Bear, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and one count of second-degree assault. He will be sentenced in March.
The crash happened at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 18, 2018, on Salem Church Road near the intersection of Deasy Drive.
Guseman crossed the double yellow line while trying to illegally pass another vehicle. His pickup truck crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry, which overturned in a ditch, trapping two of the three occupants.
Raju Chanappa, 57, and his wife, Lakshmidez Hanumanthappa, 52 – both of whom were visiting from India – later succumbed to their injuries. Their 31-year-old son, who was driving, was seriously injured and recovered.
