Police have arrested a Wilmington man accused of stalking and robbing a woman at a Newark motel.
The incident happened just before 2:30 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Red Roof Inn on South College Avenue, according to Master Cpl. William Smith, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
A female guest of the motel told police that a man followed her into her room uninvited, Smith said. As they argued, the man grabbed her phone from her hand.
Police identified the suspect as 57-year-old Claude David Holley. Smith said the victim knows Holley, but he did not specify the nature of their relationship.
Holley fled the motel in a Jeep Cherokee, Smith said.
Initially, police were not able to locate Holley and issued a public plea for information regarding his whereabouts. On Aug. 30, police located him at a business in Wilmington and arrested him without incident.
Holley was charged with second-degree robbery, stalking, breach of release and malicious interference with emergency communications. He was jailed after failing to post $8,000 secured bail.
