A woman is in critical condition after a drive-by shooting in the College Park neighborhood of Newark, police said.
The incident happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Madison Drive, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
The victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle when another car drove by and someone inside fired multiple shots.
The victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Police learned of the shooting after responding to Madison Drive for a report of loud music and people congregating in the street.
The shooter's car was last seen heading south on Elkton Road.
Rubin said detectives are in the early stage of their investigation, and more information will be released later.
Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Det. Paul Keld at 302-366-7100, ext. 3106, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The shooting is the latest in a string of recent violent incidents in College Park and the surrounding neighborhoods. In July, a group of teens carjacked a man at gunpoint in Dickey Park, and another man allegedly shot his friend while “playing with” a gun in a house on Madison Drive. In June, a man was fatally shot in nearby Cherry Hill Manor.
