South Main Street 7-Eleven

Police say a knife-wielding man attempted to rob this 7-Eleven on South Main Street early July 5.

Police are searching for an armed man who attempted to rob a Newark convenience store and pushed an employee to the ground.

The attempted robbery happened around 4:20 a.m. Friday at the 7-Eleven on South Main Street, across the street from the Newark Police Department, according to NPD spokesman Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Armed with a knife, the robber approached a clerk and demanded money. The clerk backed away, and the robber tried, but failed, to open the cash register, Rubin said.

The clerk confronted the robber in the parking lot, and the robber shoved him to the ground before fleeing, Rubin said. The clerk was not injured.

Police used a K-9 to search the area but were not able to find the robber. No surveillance footage was released.

The robber was described as a white man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Det. William Anderson at 302-366-7100, ext. 3469, or
