A helicopter prepares to fly an injured motorcyclist to Christiana Hospital on Saturday morning.

Two people were injured in separate crashes south of Newark on Saturday.

The first happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Four Seasons Parkway, according to Emily Mallon, a spokeswoman for New Castle County Paramedics.

A two-vehicle collision left a 61-year-old motorcyclist suffering from a serious leg injury and a possible head injury. First responders treated him with a tourniquet at the scene, and a helicopter flew him to Christiana Hospital in serious condition.

The second happened at 2:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Salem Church Road. The single-vehicle crash brought down power lines, trapping an 87-year-old woman in the car.

Once firefighters secured the power lines, paramedics treated the woman for an unspecified medical emergency, and an ambulance took her to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

State troopers are investigating both crashes.
