Panning the Creek: Saturday, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at White Clay Creek State Park Nature Center, 1475 Creek Road. Hunt for garnets, magnetite and more while panning the creek. Pie plates will be provided for registered participants. Bring water shoes and a towel. $6 per person.
Food and Brew Festival: Saturday, noon to 7 p.m., on Main Street. Seventeen bars and restaurants will offer beer and food tastings. Pay-as-you-go. Parking is free at city meters and lots.
Bellydancing performance: Sunday, 4 to 6 p.m., Newark Arts Alliance, 276 E. Main St. Bellydancing performances with open drum and dance. Free, but donation of $5 for performers suggested.
City council meeting: Monday, 7 p.m., at city hall, 220 S. Main St. Council will discuss a proposed lodging tax and an alcohol permit for a new restaurant in the Park N Shop.
Open studio time: Wednesday, noon to 2:30 p.m., Newark Arts Alliance, 276 E. Main St. Spend time with other artists in the Newark Arts Alliance’s classroom. Must bring own supplies. Pre-register with Cyndie Kondelin: 610-255-1509. Free.
Summer concert: Wednesday, 6:30 p.m., at White Clay Creek State Park, 880 New London Road. Kategory 5 will perform as part of the park's weekly summer concert series. Free, but park fees apply.
Farmers market: Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Drummond Farms Lane. Purchase seasonal fresh organic crops through Fresh to You, a University of Delaware student-managed garden.
Family Fun Night: Friday, July 27, 5 to 8 p.m., Handloff Park, 1000 Barksdale Road. At this family-friendly event, the Newark Parks and Recreation Department will have games and activities, and the Newark Police Department will host a bicycle rodeo for free. Pony rides, face painting and a small train will also be available, but fees apply. Food trucks will be present.
Fabulous Friday: Friday, July 27, 6 p.m., East Main Street. As part of the ongoing summer event Fabulous Fridays, this iteration will focus on music. There will be roaming performances on Main Street by Dylan Hepner, Levi Dylan, Orion Freeman and Nic Snow with Jeffrey Attakorah. The Newark Symphony Orchestra will perform on the Academy Lawn. Jack Barley will perform from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by Laura Rodgers, Steven Field and Louisa Marks from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
