Book signing: Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Newark History Museum, 429 S. College Ave. Author Theresa Hessey will sign copies of her new photo book featuring never-before-seen photos of Newark in the early 1900s. The museum will be open, and a walking tour is set for 11 a.m. Free.
Dickey Park community event: Aug. 14, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Dickey Park, 60 Madison Drive. Councilwoman Dwendolyn Creecy is organizing a community cleanup and barbecue. Volunteers are encouraged to help clean up from 7:30 a.m. to noon. State health officials will be offering free COVID-19 vaccines from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the afternoon, the Newark Police Athletic League will offer activities for kids, and there will be a bouncy house, face painting, food and music. Free.
Outdoor movie: Aug. 14, 8 p.m., at Newark Charter High School, 200 McIntire Drive. The Newark Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a showing of “RBG,” a documentary on Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life and career as a Supreme Court justice. Bring your own chairs and blankets to set up for seating on a large grass field to view on a 30-foot movie screen. Admission is free, with an optional donation to benefit Newark Parks & Recreation’s Donovan Scholarship Fund.
Outdoor concert: Aug. 18, 6:30 p.m., at White Clay Creek State Park’s Carpenter Recreation Area, 880 New London Road. 7 Rings will perform as part of the park’s weekly summer concert series. Free, but park fees apply.
Main Street Alfresco: Aug. 18, 4 to 9 p.m., on Main Street between Chapel Street and South College Avenue. Main Street will be shut down, and restaurants will offer expanded outdoor seating. Parking is available at city lots, but normal fees apply.
Outdoor concert: Aug. 19, 6:30 p.m., at Glasgow Park, 2275 Pulaski Highway. The Glasgow Park Summer Concert Series continues with a performance by Pristine Raeign. Bring chairs or a blanket. Free.
