The week ahead: High school plays, Newark Symphony Orchestra, Gov. Carney town hall

Newark Symphony Orchestra

The Newark Symphony Orchestra will perform Sunday.

“Mary Poppins”: Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., at Newark Charter High School, 200 McIntire Drive. Newark Charter School will perform the popular musical. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for kids and are available at NewarkCharterSchool.org.

“Willy Wonka the Musical”: Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at Glasgow High School, 1901 S. College Ave. Glasgow High School will perform the popular musical. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids and are available at the door.

Concert: Sunday, 3 p.m., at The Independence School, 1300 Paper Mill Road. The Newark Symphony Orchestra will perform Mozart’s “The Abduction from Seraglio” in partnership with the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra. Tickets $15 to $25.

City council meeting: Monday, 7 p.m., at city hall, 220 S. Main St. Council will vote on several contracts, as well as a request from Margherita’s Pizza for a special-use permit to sell alcohol.

School board meeting: Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School, 50 Gender Road.

Town hall meeting: Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Drive. Gov. John Carney will hold a town hall meeting to discuss his priorities for the year. Open to the public.
