Mayor's Harvest Festival

Outdoor movie: Friday, 7 p.m., at the University of Delaware Athletic Complex, 605 S. College Ave. Newark Parks and Recreation and UD will host an outdoor showing of Disney’s “Coco.” Parking opens at 6 p.m. There will be concessions on site. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Free.

Main Street Mile: Saturday, 9 a.m., at The Deer Park Tavern, 108 W. Main St. Annual 1-mile race down Main Street raises money for the Newark Police Department K-9 unit. Registration $20 at

Harvest Festival: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Olan Thomas Park, 89 Paper Mill Road. The Newark Parks and Recreation Department will host a day of fall fun with pony rides, hayrides, games, crafts, local food vendors, inflatables and more. Free.

City council meeting: Monday, 7 p.m., at city hall, 220 S. Main St. Council will discuss the 2020 budget.

School board meeting: Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Sarah Pyle Academy, 501 N. Lombard Street in Wilmington. The school board will discuss who to appoint to the open board seat.

Halloween costume making workshop: Saturday, Oct. 12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Newark Free Library, 750 Library Ave. The Friends of the Newark Free Library will host a workshop to help children and families create a costume of their favorite character to wear in the Halloween parade down Main Street on Oct. 27. Participants will be invited to march in the parade as a group. During the workshop, the Friends group will provide materials and volunteers to help in creating a costume.
