Harvest Festival

Harvest festival: Oct. 9, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Handloff Park, 1000 Barksdale Road. Free event includes hay rides, games, crafts, local food vendors and more.

Harvest fest and craft show: Oct. 10, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Newark Country Club, 300 W. Main St. Vendors will sell their crafts, and food will be available for purchase.

Blessing of the animals: Oct. 10, 2 p.m., at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church, 276 S. College Ave. The church will bless animals in celebration of St. Francis of Assisi feast day.

Anniversary celebration: Oct. 12, 7 p.m., at Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Drive. The Newark Historical Society will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an event featuring a presentation about Newark history, light refreshments, a raffle and a silent auction. Main Street Alfresco – art night: Oct 13, 4 to 9 p.m., on Main Street between Chapel Street and South College Avenue. Main Street will be shut down, and restaurants will offer expanded outdoor seating. This week, the Newark Arts Alliance will have art for sale, and plein air artists will be on Main Street. Parking is available at city lots, but normal fees apply.

Outdoor concert: Oct. 14, 6 p.m., at the Academy Lawn, 105 E. Main St. Local country artist Katelyn Christine will perform as part of the Newark Parks and Recreation Department’s fall concert series. Free.

Community cleanup: Oct. 16, 9 to 11 a.m., at city hall, at 220 S. Main St. Volunteer as an individual or with a group to clean up Newark. Trash bags will be provided. Call the 302-366-7000, email parksvolunteers@newark.de.us or register online at www.newarkde.gov/play.
