Fusion 5 Miler: July 31, 8 a.m. near Main Street and Academy Street. A 5-mile run will take participants on a course throughout downtown Newark, Devon, Binns and the Hall and Pomeroy trails. Food and Brew Festival: July 31, noon to 7 p.m., on Main Street. Eleven bars and restaurants will offer beer and food tastings. Retail shops will offer specials. No admission fee; event is pay-as-you-go.

National Night Out: Aug. 3, 6 to 8 p.m., on Main Street Academy Street, between Main Street and Delaware Avenue. Newark Police, University of Delaware Police, Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company and other public safety agencies will team up to provide community members a relaxed setting in which to meet first responders, watch demonstrations and learn about the vehicles and equipment used by police officers and firefighters. Event coincides with the Main Street Alfresco outdoor dining night. Free.
Main Street Alfresco: Aug. 3, 4 to 9 p.m., on Main Street between Chapel Street and South College Avenue. Main Street will be shut down, and restaurants will offer expanded outdoor seating. Parking is available at city lots, but normal fees apply. Event is Tuesday, rather than the usual Wednesday, to coincide with National Night Out.
Outdoor concert: Aug. 4, 6:30 p.m., at White Clay Creek State Park’s Carpenter Recreation Area, 880 New London Road. Exit 93 will perform as part of the park’s weekly summer concert series. Free, but park fees apply.
