Chapel Street Players town hall:Jan. 8, 7 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 292 W. Main St. Chapel Street Players will host a town hall meeting for locals to learn more about the organization’s plan for a new theater and how to donate money toward the effort.
Artist reception:Jan. 13, 6 to 8 p.m., at Newark Arts Alliance, 276 E. Main St. Reception will celebrate the opening of the “California Dreamin’” exhibit of photographs by Newark artist Catriona Binder-Macleod. Exhibit will be on display through Jan. 27. Free.
MLK Day celebration:Jan. 16, 6 to 8 p.m., at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main St. Several Newark churches will join together for a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Free and open to the public.
Restaurant week:Jan. 19 to Jan. 25, 5 to 10 p.m. Eleven Newark restaurants will offer a special menu of three-course meals for $40. Visit thenewarkpartnership.org/restaurant-week-2023k to view each restaurant’s menu.
Employment and volunteer fair:Jan. 21, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Newark Free Library, 750 Library Ave. The Newark Parks & Recreation Department will host an employment and volunteer fair. Residents can learn about employment and volunteer opportunities offered by the city and various organizations in Newark. Free.
Cocoa and Cupcakes 5K:Jan. 21, 10 a.m., at Canal Little League Fields, 2548 Glasgow Ave. After the race, runners will receive hot cocoa, a cupcake and a commemorative mug. Race raises money for the Friends of Fusion Foundation. Registration $29 in advance at fusionracetiming.com or $40 at the event
Chinese New Year storytime:Jan. 31, 10:30 a.m., at Newark Free Library, 750 Library Ave. The library will host a special storytime to teach kids ages 2 to 7 about the celebrations and history of the Chinese New Year. Free. Register at delawarelibraries.libcal.com.
