New Castle County Police are investigating the shooting of a 46-year-old Newark-area woman who was shot early Sunday morning as she was asleep in the bedroom of her residence.

At 4:15 a.m., County Police were called to the unit block of Martindale Drive in the community of Brookside south of Newark. When police arrived, it was learned that the victim had been transported to the Christiana Hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds which were considered non-life- threatening.  The victim is presently in stable condition.

The investigation has revealed that the victim was asleep in her bedroom when she was shot.  After being shot, the victim was able to retrieve her cellular phone from the living room and call 9-1-1.  Police learned that the victim’s two children were sleeping on a mattress that was on the floor next to the victim’s bed at the time of the shooting.  The children were not injured.  Police also discovered that the exterior of the residence also sustained damage from the shots.

The suspects were described as three white males and one unknown male. The vehicle used in the crime is described as a silver or gray four door Honda.

To offer information regarding this investigation, please call the New Castle County Police Department at (302) 395-8110 or visit our website at www.nccpd.com or call Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.  Citizens can also text a crime tip to: CRIMES (274637), then type TIPS702, leave one space and type the information.

Brookside is the ghetto anymore, I grew up there and everytime I go back to visit my dad, it looks worse and worse. The shopping center looks like crap, the neighborhood loooks like a slum. What a shame. time for Pops to move.

19702, you're wrong. And and idiot. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

To 19702: You may be right, but you are jumping to conclusions. Haven't you ever heard of mistaken identity or stray bullets? People HAVE been shot in their own backyards and homes by stray bullets before - sometimes from hunters; sometimes from someone firing at someone and missing.

Yes 19702, there was probably a reason. Although, no one deserves to be shot.

There is a lot of missing back-story here. No one should be shot, but, no one is shot while sleeping, particularly next to sleeping children, by outsiders, for no reason. I smell a rat. Could it be that our victim is not so innocent? There is an elephant in the room!
