Police are looking for two people who were captured on cell phone video having sex in the parking lot behind the Galleria on Saturday afternoon.

Photos and videos of the incident quickly went viral after several witnesses posted them to Instagram and other social media websites.

Lt. Mark A. Farrall, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department, said the incident happened sometime in the afternoon hours near some dumpsters behind the building at 45 East Main St.

It happened “in broad daylight” and “in plain view of numerous passersby,” Farrall noted.

“It’s certainly not conduct that will be tolerated,” he said.

Several people reported the photos to the police, and officers themselves saw them on social media, Farrall said. The incident was not reported while it was in progress.

Police are distributing images captured from the video in hopes someone will provide the identities of the two suspects. A similar strategy by NPD led to several arrests related to the “I’m Shmacked” incident in September.

“In this day and age, everything is captured on surveillance video or on a cell phone,” Farrall said. “People need to realize that and realize they need to conduct themselves appropriately.”

One suspect is described as a college-aged white man with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a green button down shirt, khaki pants and brown boots.

The other is described as a college-aged white woman with blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a green short sleeve t-shirt, jean shorts, brown cowboy boots and glasses.

Anyone with information on the identities of the suspect is asked to contact Detective Greg D’Elia at 302-366-7110 ext. 132 or greg.delia@cj.state.de.us.

Farrall said investigators want to interview the suspects before deciding what charges to pursue.

The incident came during a busy St. Patrick’s Day weekend for police. Preliminary numbers indicate that officers made 73 arrests, mostly for alcohol, noise and disorderly conduct offenses, Farrall said.

Catch these dastardly villains! It's not like the police could spend their time going after REAL criminals like, I don't know...Murderers, Rapists, Thieves or Crooked Politicians. [blink]
