The Delaware Alliance for Community Advancement (DACA) is offering free tax preparation to Delaware residents at their 19 locations throughout New Castle County.
DACA Tax preparers are certified to help low income workers to put money back into their pockets. They are also a Certified Acceptance Agency (ITIN) and certified to prepare veterans taxes. DACA affords IRS/VITA certified preparers to low-income individuals, living in the state of Delaware. Now with 19 locations, they are more easily accessible to residents who qualify to have their taxes filed for free-making it easier to claim tax credits they may have missed otherwise.
For instance, many low-income families who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) are not aware of their eligibility and are leaving those refunds unclaimed, according to data from the VITA/IRS and United Way of Delaware, through this collaboration with DACA, hopes to change that.
In New Castle County, more than 4,500 families who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit do not claim it, resulting in over $8 million lost to the local economy.
Darlene Battle Executive Director of Delaware Alliance for Community Advancement (DACA) says "It is an honor to help people who work so hard for their money just to pay their household bills, childcare, and feed and clothes their family, and save. DACA is helping by providing free tax services that will support the economic strength of the community." A client of DACA asked us three times "'Are you sure it's free?'"
Additionally, at the DACA offices, Delawareans and veterans can receive additional financial services, including credit score explanations and financial counseling, which aims to improve the financial well being of low-income individuals and families by providing tools to increase income, build savings, and develop and maintain assets.
To be eligible for free tax preparation, residents can earn a maximum of $49,000 annually. For a location nearest you call our office at (302) 656-8200.
